BIRDDOGDOC'S CHRONICLES...Tales from Thickets Across the U.S. Prairies and Uplands, Bird Dog Veterinary Advice, Fly Fishing, and other Wild Mis-Adventures
Dann Jacobus' Fence Line Flush made the cover of the Nov/Dec 2009 issue of the PDJ. I enjoyed the picture so much! It reminded me of chasing wily roughneck-roosters while I was in veterinary school in Eastern Washington with my very first crazy pointing dog...Jibbers! Has Quail Shooting Changed?
Every man lives in the worst and best of times, or so said the poet. Live your shooting now with a gusto. Nastalgia has its place but needn't be all one can enjoy. What we do will be the tradition of the next generation. Let it be a proud inheritance that we pass on, centered in our right to be afield each Autumn, gun in hand and dogs a'runnin'. Walter H. Bruning, PhD. The American Hunter, 1975. http://www.theuplandequation.blogspot.com/
Favorite Poem--The Last Leaf on the North Porch Maple
"One small last leaf, not noticed until now except as one of thousands in their glory, a glory scarcely greater than its own lone brittle brown, all that is left of Indian summer. One small last leaf I hadn't noticed, until now that it is gone I see it even more." George Bird Evans
Favorite Quote
"These western pointing dogs generally have a special look, as if they know things ordinary field trial champions and woodcock wizards haven't heard of. It is a secretive, conniving look that comes from listening for the soft cackle of chukars from distant rimrock and catching the rising scent of sage hens from far down the deep draws, with pronghorns watching from the ridges." Charles F. Waterman

Have bird dogs...will travel. I enjoy chasing my setters, pointers, and FB English Cocker in wide open spaces. (Fly fishing is something to get me between the bird dog seasons!)When not chasing my bird dogs, I'm thinking, reading or writing about bird dogs! The perfect day to me is hunting upland birds with my brother Andy in the bird rich Uplands of Idaho! There's nothing better than dogs on point and puppy breath!
