LimeStoner...Centre County, PA
It's a dang good thing that central Pennsylvania doesn't have any bobwhite quail...I'd move there tomorrow without any second thoughts! We just returned from 10 days of fly fishing heaven-on-earth. I fished almost every day on a different creek or run. I'm sworn to secrecy which creeks and runs we fished, but I can tell you that they were all in Nittany Lion Country...and boy do they adore PSU!
I was told by my host (Karen's brother-in-law Brandon) that this was a slow time of the year on these limestone creeks...but I most have been lucky because I caught good fish every day with dry flies and nymphs. I guess that I should go back when the fishing is at its height! Every night we saw mayfly hatches such as slate drakes, caddis flies, sulphers, BWO, blue quills, light cahills, and a couple of yellow sallies to name a few. The tricos were a little slow starting because of the rain and unseasonably colder weather.
Some highlights beside the fishing were Elk Creek Brewery in Millheim, PA and The Feathered Hook Fly Shop in Coburn, PA. The owner of the fly shop, Jonas, is a fellow Washington State University Cougar and a heck of a informative/nice guy. I would strongly recommend visiting his shop if you're ever fortunate enough to fish in Centre County, PA. Of course it was neat to see the Amish out in the community too!
Below are some photos that highlight my Pennsylvania limestoner trip...enjoy!
